There are many child care options in NC, and it can be difficult to know which is best for your family. The CCR&R Council has created a wonderful brochure that explains various child care options, licensing requirements, and information about choosing quality child care.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) is the regulatory agency that inspects and provides licenses' to child care programs. You can visit their website to complete a search on any licensed child care facility, including options to review licensing violations.
Family child care home programs, typically offer a mixed age-group setting in a home environment. Depending on enrollment, these facilities are licensed by DCDEE.
Child Care Centers may be privately owned, or a part of a church, a public school setting, or operated as part of a Head Start program. There are a few exceptions when these programs do not need to be licensed by DCDEE.
