Choosing a career with young children can be the most rewarding decision of your life. An early childhood educator gets to make a real impact on young children's lives and be a part of shaping future generations. Children are curious and eager to learn, which leads to amazing opportunities for growth and also allows the teacher to view the world through a child's eye. Research has shown that the early years are critical for brain development, allowing early educators to provide children with the tools they need for success in life. As an early educator you can expect to stay busy and have many opportunities to be creative and use your imagination. And best of all, there are very few careers where you get daily hugs and hear every day how special you are!
If you want to provide care in your home for a maximum of five preschool children, or up to eight children if at least three are school-aged, then you need to follow the Family Child Care Home Process for Licensure.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education has created a booklet which outlines the state requirements for operating a Child Care Center in North Carolina. You will also want to check with your county or city governments to find out if there are additional local standards. You can contact our Early Education Manager for Rowan County specific information.
All potential early childhood teachers should get started by creating an account with the Division of Child Development and Early Education's Workforce Unit.
